Defined as “the taking of another person’s property without that person’s permission or consent with the intent to deprive the rightful owner of it”, theft has existed ever since humans first developed the concept of possessions.
Thieves have been punished in all manner of cruel and unusual ways throughout history – from branding them with the letter ‘T’ to warn others of their guilt, to making them walk over hot irons to prove their innocence.
